1-6: In chapters 1-6 Stanley go to Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is for bad boys, has no lake and it’s not even a camp, all you do is dig holes all day. The man that runs the camps name is Mrs. Sir (what kind of a name is that). Stanley goes to Camp Green Lake because he was accused of stealing a famous baseball players sneakers.

In these chapters every one was finishing before Stanley. After Stanley dug his hole he was very thirsty. He walked back to camp and took a shower, and he liked the cold water so much he said it was like 4 minutes of heaven. He also got the nickname Caveman. Then it went to his great, great, great grandfather. He wanted to win a girls hand in marriage. He wanted to impress her with a pig, so he asked his friend who was a gypsy. She gave him a piglet, and told him a song to sing to the pig. He had to carry the pig up a mountain and make it drink out of a stream. When it drank he had to sing that song to the pig. Each day it would get bigger. She told him that after the pig was big and strong that he had to carry her up the mountain. He went to win the girl’s hand in marriage, but when she couldn’t choose between him and a butcher he told her to marry the butcher. He went to America to start a new life. He met a woman who could actually think for her self. They afterwards got married.

When Stanley’s group gave him the nickname “Caveman” he felt like they actually cared about him. Stanley had found what he thought was his first “miracle”, A rock with a fish in it. When he showed Mr. Pendanski he told him it was a fossil. Mr. Pendanski said the warden wouldn’t care about any fossil. Stanley realized two things, one was that there would be an order of how the kids would line up there holes, X Ray first, then Armpit, Squid, Zigzag, Magnet, and Zero. After he told Mr. Pendanski he had found the rock. X Ray came over and told Stanley “if you find anything, you bring it to me”. That was when he noticed that X Ray was obviously the leader. Stanley thought that his group was friends with him because he knew that they would scare Derrick Dunne senseless. He finds a Golden toob, one end open the other closed; it has KB imprinted in side of a heart on it. He gives it to X Ray and tells X Ray to show the warden the next day because his hole was almost done and he would be able to take the whole ay off the next day.
Chapter 10-16 summary
In chapters10-16 Stanley got a letter from his mom and then he worte back one and while he was doing that Zero saw him and asked him if he could teach him how to read. The next day Stanley stole sunflower seeds and Mr. Sir said to go to the warden so he took him there in his truck so he got to feel the wind in his face. The warden put poisonous nail polish on and runner it across his face and it got on his cut near his ear I hurt so he jumped back then the warden said he could go back to digging holes and on the lake and he said Mr. Sir annyonded the Warden.
22-28: In chapters 22-28 Stanley agrees to teach Zero how to read and write. To pay him back Zero dig halve of Stanley’s hole each day. Since Mrs. Sir is mad at Stanley he won’t fill his canteen, but some how Mr. Pendanski knew about this and gave Stanley extra water. Zero finally learns how to write his name and the alphabet, we find out that Zero’s real name is Hector Zeroni.
In these chapters, the warden finds out that Stanley is teaching Zero how to read and that Zero was digging holes for Stanley. Zero got mad at Mr. Pendanski because he said that he was so stupid, he doesn’t even know who stupid he is. Zero hit Mr. Pendanski in the face with a shovel. Zero gets taken away and another boy comes and everybody calls him Twitch. He got sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing a car. He says when ever he gets near a car, he twitches. Zigzag also says that his birthday was on July 8. When it is your birthday, you get to sleep in. Zigzag found out that Zero was digging Stanley’s holes so he asked if he could dig Stanley’s holes for a cookie. Stanley said no and Zigzag got mad at him. Zigzag beat him up and Zero almost killed him by choking him. He also tried to run away in the truck, but only went 15 feet. He found one sunflower seed and that was his lunch.
In these chapters Stanley is walking towards the big thumb. He sees something in the lake when he is walking, and it turns out to be a boat. He thinks that an animal is living in it, so he calls out to the boat, so it would leave. Zero turned out to be alive and under the boat. There are also Kate Barlow's spiced peaches under the boat. Zero had been surviving off of them, and called it Spoosh. He walked with Stanley to the big thumb. Zero keeps getting bad stomach pains. They also have to climb up a large ledge. Later Stanley found mud, which has water. He also finds onions, and tells Zero it is a hot fudge sundae.

This chapter was about how Stanley and Zero find the treasure and they hold a case and on the case it is full of yellow spotted lizards and they get an over them. Mr. Sir, the Warden, and Mr. Pandanceski walk out in their P.J.’s and they saw Stanley and Zero in the hole they stood there until the lizards went away but they didn’t. Mr. Sir told Stanley that he was free what he meant by that was that his lawyer came and said that Stanley is free Stanley didn’t care he was thinking about his mom and family on the other hand Zero got tried of standing then the same spot so Stanley tried to get out of the hole so then after he was out he could pull Zero up but he didn’t because the lizards were on him then Stanley’s lawyer came and the Warden said they were walking and fell into the hole but then Zero said that’s not true. The Warden said that Stanley stole the treasure but it was Stanley’s because it said his name on it then they got out of the hole and the boys woke up and ran out to dig holes and saw Stanley and Zero and said that Mr. Pandanceski said that they don’t have to dig holes anymore The Warden got mad and left and then Stanley and Zero left.
When Zero and Stanley reach the top of the mountain Zero has already passed out, Stanley finds mud. He realized to have mud you have to have water. He starts digging in the mud. When he finds water he puts it in the glass bottles that they had brought from the boat. He also finds onions. Zero tells Stanley about the story of how he lost his mom and how he found the shoe that he stole. They leave the mountain with onions and water. They think of going to Camp Green Lake and stealing some food from the kitchen.
